Our trips are designed to be educational and interactive; as well as, being part of our training program. Every time out is an opportunity in training and there is something to learn from each adventure. We want you to be apart of our team and feel that you ran the dog team. We encourage as much participation from you that is with in your comfort level. This includes preparing the dogs – harnessing – driving the team, treating and watering the dogs or just sitting back and enjoying the ride. The sled design offers you a chance to drive while the musher maintains full control of the sled and team.

The skill level required in driving a sled is: minimal balance, standing on two runners, holding onto the driver bow, and shifting your weight to assist the sled in turning. Our tour is a single sled operation, which can typically accommodate a family of 2 adults and one or two children under 12 years (400lb limit). Additional sleds maybe available for tours booked two weeks in advance. Please visit the following link for any logistical details .
Any trail around Vermont traveled by dog team is a unique beautiful opportunity. We choose the trails that also highlight the public lands of Vermont. Our base location is Little River State Park, part of the Mansfield State Forest. This place is truly a gem in central Vermont . Many people have visited Vermont State Parks in the summer, but they have a completely different feel to them when the only way in and out is by a winter mode of travel. Please visit the Department of Forest Parks and Recreation for information on State lands and Parks . I strive to use trail networks that are for non motorized recreation, but the Vermont Association of Snow Traveler (VAST) trails are a valuable resource to the Sled Dog Community. Please visit the local chapter of VAST – The Green Mountain Roamer or VAST main site and consider a tour with the Stowe Snowmachine tours. To seek out other activities while you are here, check out the Vermont Outdoor Guide Association (VOGA) web page – October Siberians have been a proud member since 2005. To book your lodging and dog sledding trip in one package, please go to reserve page which also outlines Inns and Resorts we partner with.
*New This Year* Fall Training Run Tours
The cool temperatures of autumn have been letting us know of the changing season in late August. The huskies have been howling on those cool mornings – summer vacation is coming to and end. The dogs are all too eager to jump into their harnesses and the new season begins. Fall training is to build up strength and condition for the coming winter. We start out slow with shorter distance and quickly build up to longer runs. It is quite the site as our dog power ATV comes barreling down our driveways and we begin the journey down the back roads and trails of the neighborhood.
With your participation we typically have one adult and a child or two on the ATV and additional group members following in a car and a switch of riders somewhere during the run. With fall foliage the photo opportunities are fabulous.
Winter Tour Sites
The Little River State Park Tour in Waterbury Vermont :
This is October Siberians Primary Tour Location and Rob's favorite trail system located in the Southeast portion of the Mansfield State Forest. Little River State Park Campground is situated on the Waterbury Reservoir . This tour offers option to travels through the camping area, along the Waterbury reservoir and a former homestead community last occupied about 100 years ago. This journey takes you past many rock walls, old foundations, cemeteries, orchards and beautiful vistas which foster images of days gone by. There is always possibility of wildlife encounters with deer, moose, fox, ground birds and hopefully not porcupines – that's another story. The terrain is typical Vermont hill climbs and the thrill of the downhill, but rest assure Robs dog driving experience maintains full control of the pace of the team and the speed of the sled. This trip is 6 to 8 miles journey, with the opportunities for extended tours on the extensive trail network. You can find Little River State Park using these . When trail conditions are not suitable at Little River, we keep options open for back-up locations in Stowe, Bolton and Lincoln Vermont.

The Smugglers Notch Tour in Stowe Vermont:
|
This tour is one of our most thrilling tours through one of Vermont pristine mountain passes. This site is offered as a back-up when the Primary Location is not suitable for tours. The tour follows State Route 108 from the Stowe Mountain Ski Resort to the Smugglers Notch Ski Resort. It incorporate climbing up one side and going down the other and turning around to head back. The steepest climbing and the most technical down hill through a series of switch backs are located on the Stowe side of the Notch. Being a high alpine notch it gets snow early and keeps it longer than the other tour location. Rob truly enjoys this driving experiences and it maybe an option for you if conditions are right.

The Honey Hollow Tour in Bolton Vermont
This tour is located in the Camel Hump State Park and travel on a class 4 town road. This site is offered as a back-up when the Primary Location is not suitable for tours . As you might guess this trip also incorporate a climb for almost the entire 3 mile out, so you know what you are in store for on the trip back. Along the way we get wonderful view looking North and South along the spine of the Green Mountain, and past a summer camp, which Rob would consider leaving his home to take up residency – you would to if you get the chance to see it. You can find Honey Hollow using these .
The Green Mountain National Forest Tour in South Lincoln and Ripton Vermont :
|
This tour begins on a National Forest Service Road in South Lincoln Vermont and heads into Ripton and the Breadloaf Wilderness Area. This site is used for longer trips over 40 mile of trails we typically run. This is the area where Robert Frost spent much of his life and inspired the poetry he left us with – you may want to brush up on his writings, Oh the woods are beautiful dark and deep, but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep. Once in Ripton several options exist to complete a loop and head back on the road just travel or pick-up the Catamount Trail (a cross country sky trail the runs the length of the State). This tour is 7 to 9 miles with the opportunities for extended all day trip up to 40 miles. You can find South Lincoln using these .
